Hebrew Learning at Any Age!

During the school year, we are intentional about building Jewish Life Vocabulary at ECRS. We use Hebrew as much as possible to refer to various items and destinations around Emanuel. Many of our teachers have Hebrew labels around their classrooms so that students can refer to the clock, trashcan, chairs, pencils, etc. using their Hebrew names.

And I have good news! Summer is the perfect time to continue Hebrew learning at any age! At many of our Jewish summer camps, Hebrew learning comes naturally. For example, OSRUI utilizes what they call the “sandwich method” to introduce chanichim – campers - chanichim *clap* to new Hebrew words. Just like I did above, they say the Hebrew word - then the English - then repeat the Hebrew, then *clap* - a sandwich!

Below is a list of some of my favorite summertime-themed Hebrew words. Feel free to print it out and put it on your fridge as a reminder to incorporate some Ivrit – Hebrew – Ivrit *clap* into your day as we enter the warm summer months!
